Lima Senior High School is adding lacrosse to its offerings beginning this spring.
Nate Garlock, the district’s director of safety and security, will be the boys head coach. He has 10 years or coaching experience. Alphonso Townsend will serve as his assistant.
Hunter Vermillion, who is currently the middle school soccer coach, will coach the girls.
Lima Senior students are already showing an interest in the spring sport that will be played in Spartan Stadium. Athletes will be able to earn varsity letters in lacrosse.
Several schools in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) already offer lacrosse. This is the only program in Allen County and the surrounding area.
The hope is that in a few years, the district can start introducing lacrosse to younger students as well.
Anyone interested in playing lacrosse should talk to John Zell in the Athletic Office.
