Spartans News · Christine Stump Duncan’s jersey retired

The Lima Senior High School Athletic Department has retired the jersey of basketball standout Christine Stump Duncan.

Duncan’s jersey was first retired in 1979, when she was a senior at LSH. The school district did not start officially retiring jerseys until many years later.

Duncan was a three-year varsity starter in volleyball, basketball and softball. A three-year captain of the basketball team, she averaged 20.6 points her sophomore year, 22.4 points her junior year and 23.3 points her senior year. She held the single-game scoring record of 44 points.

In 1978, she was selected First Team All-Northwest Ohio District. She also earned All-State Honorable Mention honors.

She was again selected First Team All-Northwest Ohio District in her senior year, as well as being named First Team All-State. She was named Outstanding Athlete of the Year by coaches and athletic directors, and won the Boosters Trophy and Scholarship.

Duncan also led the Spartans in home runs two of her three years playing softball and had a career batting average of .588.

She played basketball and volleyball at Ashland College.
